It Started With a Problem That Shouldn’t Exist
Deep in the forests of West Java, the Pemburu Beruang — the Bear Hunters of Kanekes — have been harvesting wild honey for generations. They climb cliff faces in the dark. They follow the flight paths of Apis dorsata colonies through dense forest. They carry their harvest down by hand, using tools unchanged for centuries.
And then they couldn’t sell it.
Some walked to the city, going door to door, jar by jar. Buyers who didn’t understand what they were holding — raw, wild, chemical-free honey from one of the last untouched forest ecosystems in Java — offered prices that didn’t come close to reflecting the effort, the skill, or the risk involved. Others sold to middlemen. The margins were worse.
The work was extraordinary. The recognition was not.

Rock Hard Bee was founded on a simple belief: the people who do the hardest work deserve the clearest market.
We built a direct channel between Indonesia’s honey hunters and beekeepers — and customers around the world who understand what real honey is, and are willing to pay what it’s worth.
No middlemen. No industrial processing. No compromise on quality or on the people behind it.
Our Community of Producers
What began as a partnership with the Pemburu Beruang of Kanekes, West Java, has grown into a wider mission. Rock Hard Bee now works with:
- Pemburu Beruang — Kanekes, West Java — wild Apis dorsata honey hunters from the Baduy indigenous community, harvesting from 22,000 hectares of chemically untouched protected forest
- Wild honey hunters — East Java — traditional hunters sourcing from the forests of East Java, bringing the same commitment to wild, unprocessed honey
- Honey beekeepers — East Java — small-scale beekeepers practicing responsible, natural beekeeping without industrial intervention
- Teak wood craftsmen — Malang, East Java — artisan woodworkers who create the handcrafted packaging that presents each jar as the premium product it truly is

The Honey
Our flagship product sources exclusively from wild Apis dorsata colonies in the protected forests of Kanekes, Lebak Regency, Banten, West Java. The Baduy community’s ancestral law — the pikukuh — prohibits all synthetic chemicals across 22,000 hectares of forest. No pesticides. No fertilizers. No industrial intervention of any kind.
The result is honey that is genuinely, verifiably wild — in a way that is increasingly rare in the modern world.
Limited to approximately 100 jars per harvest season. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
Our Partnership
Rock Hard Bee operates in direct partnership with the Pemburu Beruang community of Kanekes, West Java, verified through Koprasi Madu Baduy Sejahtera — the traditional honey cooperative of the Kanekes community. A portion of every sale supports the continuation of traditional harvesting practices and the long-term economic sustainability of Indonesia’s honey hunting and beekeeping traditions.
We also partner with pemburuberuang.shop — the Indonesian-market storefront for the same community — to ensure our producers have a presence in both local and international markets.
